QuitOS: Stop Smoking helps people stop smoking cigarettes. This policy explains exactly what the app stores, where it goes, and how to delete it. It describes what the software actually does, not what we might do later.
What we store
Your account. Your email address. Signing in works by sending a code to that address, so we always have it. There is no guest mode and no anonymous account. We store the address so you can get back to your data on a new phone, and for nothing else.
Your quit plan. The answers you give during setup: whether you are quitting now, on a date, or tapering; your quit date; roughly what you spend on cigarettes per month; how many cigarettes a day and how you buy them; the strength on your pack; your reasons for quitting; and the situations that trigger you.
Your activity. Craving rescues (when, how long, whether you resisted, and the trigger if you tagged one), daily check-ins, slips, cigarette logs if you are tapering, and moments you reached out to your accountability partner. This is what powers your streak, your savings, and your patterns.
Your subscription status. Whether you are on the free or paid tier. Payment itself is handled entirely by Apple; we never see your card details.
What stays on your phone and is never uploaded
- Your accountability partner's name and phone number. Stored only in your device's local storage. It is never transmitted to us or anyone else.
- Your contacts. If you use the contact picker to choose a partner, the app reads your address book only at that moment and only to show you the list. We save just the one person you pick, on your device. Nothing else is read, kept or sent. You can skip the picker entirely and type a name and number instead.
- Reminders. The daily nudge is scheduled by your phone. No reminder data reaches our servers.
The AI coach
If you subscribe to Plus, the coach sends your messages, along with relevant details of your quit plan and progress, to OpenAI to generate a reply. OpenAI processes that text to return a response. Conversations are not used to train models.
The coach is unavailable on the free tier, and no request is sent to OpenAI for a free account. That is enforced on our server, not in the app.
The coach is not a medical service and not a crisis service. If you mention thoughts of self-harm, it will point you to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. The app also offers 988 and the Quitline (1-800-QUIT-NOW) directly, free, without a subscription.
Who else is involved
- Supabase hosts our database and handles sign-in.
- OpenAI generates coach replies, for Plus subscribers only.
- Apple processes subscription payments and tells us whether yours is active.
That is the complete list. There are no advertising networks, no analytics providers, and no data brokers, because the app contains no code that talks to any.
Tracking
We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and we do not build advertising profiles. The app contains no tracking software.
Deleting your data
Open Profile → Account → Delete account and data. This permanently removes your account and everything attached to it: quit plan, rescues, check-ins, slips, cigarette logs and urge history, from your phone and from our servers. It cannot be undone. Your accountability partner's details are erased from your device at the same time.
You can also email us and we will do it for you.
How long we keep things
Your data stays until you delete it. We do not have a scheduled purge, because your quit history is the point of the product. A streak you have held for two years is worth keeping.
Children
QuitOS: Stop Smoking is intended for adults who want to stop smoking. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or who receives it, we will update the date at the top and note the change in the app before it takes effect.
